In simple terms, if you’re not on the first page of Google search’s result page, you’re not anywhere. Why you might ask? Well, only 6% of users click the second search results page of Google… And in today’s digital age, more and more people turn to Google to find their products and services, so being viewed is critical.
So how do you increase your search ranking high enough to be seen by costumers?
This is done through a process called Search Engine Optimization (SEO), and it focuses on organically landing your web page as high as possible on Google’s results pages.
Since Google’s complicated search ranking algorithm is highly secretive, we’ve compiled some industry tactics to help increase your website’s ranking.
Keywords are words associated with your web page. Users search these “keywords” in Google, and the higher your keyword optimization, the higher your rank.
In order to have the best keyword for your SEO, some research should be conducted. Start with your ideal customer, and ask yourself what they might search for.
For example, as a digital media marketing agency, one of Atlas’ keywords is “social media.” You can expand your keyword by having web alternatives (misspellings) or having long-tail-keyword.
Trying to beat out many competitors for a common keyword is difficult. But by having a long-tail-keyword, you become more specific and narrow down the competition.
For example, you could have a common keyword like “coat” or a long-tail-keyword like “woman’s red coat xs”. The latter is more specific to your buyer and your product, thus increasing your SEO for that keyword.
So now that you know what a keyword is, where do they go? Ideally in the URL, the title, and your first paragraph. You can sprinkle it throughout the page as well, but avoid having your writing seem awkward or forced.
Another handy place to have your keywords is in the “alt-text” and “description” of your images. This allows Google’s algorithm to understand and read the image, increasing your SEO.
Google can understand your website content better through a site map, which helps optimize for better search results. It’s also another way to sneak a keyword into your web page, without your writing being repetitive to your audience.
With new content constantly being added to the web, not only do you have to compete with yesterday’s SEO competition, but today’s and tomorrow’s too!
Having a company blog that uses relevant keywords for your target market is a great way to increase SEO.
Bonus: blogs also lend themselves well to social media. You can share them on Facebook, Twitter or Linked and increase your online presence, further increasing your SEO. But make sure you vary the words of your post, replicas are seen as spammy and actually hurt your SEO.
Blogs allow you to stay relevant for Google’s algorithm, and by adding outlinks and having backlinks, you can further increase your SEO.
Outlinks are hyperlinks on your blog that link to other websites. Not all links are created equal, however, and you should only be linking to popular and authoritative websites. This increases your website’s credibility, thus further increasing your SEO.
Having backlinks (other sites linking to you) is another way to increase your search result ranking as they are considered “third-party votes” to gauge your website. These backlinks are considered results that are harder to manipulate, therefore, weighted more heavily for SEO.
This can be harder to gain, but the more quality, informative content you post, the higher your chances that a relevant party may reference it. Atlas does this by writing guest blogs for Futurpreneur. Not only does it create backlinks to Atlas from Futurpreneur, but if we reblog or repost them, it also creates outlinks to Futurpreneur. It’s a win-win for everyone.
Search engine optimization can make or break a business. Making sure your customer can find you is essential for success. Although SEO may seem tricky, you can always consult a digital marketing agency for strategy or management. While there is no easy, overnight fix for SEO, these are some easy changes you can make to your website.

"Working with Atlas Communications has been one of my highlights of 2016. Hiring them has not only been beneficial for our company but for me as a start-up entrepreneur. Having them take the lead for LiveAbstract social media has greatly increased our presence and impact on both our platforms. I would highly recommend them to any company for your digital marketing needs. Thanks Atlas looking forward to continue working together in the future.”
"Reliable…Smart…Professional. Cliché but true. More importantly they get us, think like us, and want us to succeed."
"Our company is very new to social media with no experience or expertise. We initially approached Atlas Communications for out-sourcing our social media needs. As we progressed in our social media plans we decided it would be best to hire in-house. Atlas was flexible and worked with us to customize our needs. They provided ongoing consulting and training for our social media staff and market team. They were extremely patient with our embarrassingly little of knowledge of social media. We are grateful for their help, knowledge, flexibility and supportive attitude. A welcome find in the vast sea of social media blur. "
"I enjoyed very much working with Atlas Communications. I found them to be extremely punctual, professional, and pleasant to work with. My account representative was available at any time and that always makes a big difference."
