These mistakes could make or break your blog

So, you’ve put in the effort of starting a blog – great! Now that you’ve started, don’t ruin it with bad content! Not all content is created equally, and in order to maximize your time and money, you need the right content for your website.

Having a company blog can greatly increase your website traffic, but how can content be “bad” and does it affect your website?

What is bad content?

Unfortunately, there are many ways a website’s content might be considered “bad.” For starters, having incorrect information or misleading titles. This will not only lead to a negative connotation with your brand once it’s discovered, but it will also lower your Google search results rank. Keep your readers’ trust and your website’s credibility by only writing verified content.

Being too sales oriented

Another common mistake is having a blog that is only used for advertising. A blog’s purpose is to be helpful to its audience! By having content that is merely promotional, it not only detours your audience but does not benefit your website’s SEO.

Write content that your target audience would find beneficial or interesting. This also increases your SEO as it’s more likely to be searched for and clicked on, rather than writing information that’s only centered around your product or services.

Don’t forget your target user’s preferences for keywords as well!

Overusing keywords

Keywords are words associated with a website page, that when searched on Google, lists content in order of relevance. Keywords can be extremely helpful for increasing SEO, however, if you overuse them Google will penalize your website’s rank. Having a 2-5% keyword density is industry standard without risk of “overstuffing”.

Having too much content

You want your audience to be able to easily consume your content, so less is more. If a paragraph can still get the point across without the use of an extra word or sentence, remove it.

Having white space on your website is also helpful. This gives visual cues making your content scannable and helps readers digest content easily.

Writing unoriginal content

By not writing fresh, innovative articles, visitors won’t be compelled to read your content. Not only will there be a ton of other websites your SEO has to compete with, but Google will actually punish your website’s ranking if there are too many similarities with other websites. Duplicate content is bad content.

Having great content is key to attracting new visitors and keeping current consumers interested. It will not only increase sales but maximize your brand’s reputation. If you find you’re still struggling with content creation,  contact  Atlas Communications to get a free quote today.

"Our company is very new to social media with no experience or expertise. We initially approached Atlas Communications for out-sourcing our social media needs. As we progressed in our social media plans we decided it would be best to hire in-house. Atlas was flexible and worked with us to customize our needs. They provided ongoing consulting and training for our social media staff and market team. They were extremely patient with our embarrassingly little of knowledge of social media. We are grateful for their help, knowledge, flexibility and supportive attitude. A welcome find in the vast sea of social media blur. "
